2019 SWIM LESSON INFORMATION
ALL SWIM LESSON REGISTRATIONS WILL TAKE PLACE ONLINE UTILIZING THE PORTAL!!
​WE WILL NOT BE TAKING ANY PHYSICAL REGISTRATIONS AT THE RECREATION CENTER THIS YEAR

SWIM LESSON SIGN-UP: Wednesday May 15, 2019
Private Lesson spots will open at 9:00AM; Group Lesson spots will open at 10:00AM

NOTE: YOU MAY NEED TO REFRESH YOUR PAGE AT 9:00AM/10:00AM FOR THE REGISTRATION TABS TO OPEN
Sign up will continue until all spots are filled.
All registrations will be ONLINE using the portal. 
We will NOT accept people calling in to reserve a spot.  
​Children must be 4 years of age or older to participate. 
GROUP SWIM LESSONS - $65.00
This includes 8 lessons, each for 30 minutes
Lesson Dates: June 17-21, 24-26 | Rain Dates: June 27-28
Session Times: 9:30-10:00am, 10:00-10:30am, ​10:30-11:00am, 11:00-11:30am
Levels: Level 1, 2 & 3 (descriptions of each level are available on the bottom half of this page)
**LIMIT 8 KIDS/SESSION**
PRIVATE SWIM LESSONS - $100.00
This includes 8 lessons, each for 30 minutes
​Lesson Dates - June Evening Sessions: June 17-20,  24-27 | Rain Dates: July 1-2
Session Times: 6:00-6:30pm, 6:30-7:00pm
​
Lesson Dates - July Morning Sessions: 
July 8-12, 15-17 | Rain Dates: July 18-19
Session Times: 9:30-10:00am, 10:00-10:30am, 10:30-11:00am, 11:00-11:30am

Lesson Dates - July Evening Sessions: July 8-11, 15-18 | Rain Dates: July 22-23
Session Times: 6:00-6:30pm, 6:30-7:00pm

IMPORTANT NOTES ABOUT SWIM LESSON REGISTRATION
  • For specific directions about setting up your portal account and step by step registration directions, CLICK HERE
  • If a lesson says “Call Now” instead of “Sign Up” that means the group is FULL. Calling the Rec Center will only allow you to be put on a waiting list.
  • If you need to add a child /spouse to your account, email nikkivance@windstream.net with your name and who you need to add. This must be done by 1:00pm on May 14th to guarantee that they will show up on your account by the time registration begins​
 
THINGS TO DO BEFORE MAY 15
  • Make sure you have an account set up – If you do not have an account, you will need to set one up. You must have requested access (directions below) PRIOR to 1:00pm on May 14th to be guaranteed access to your account on Wednesday morning when sign up begins. Visit the Portal Info Page for specific directions.
  • Know how to log on to your account and navigate the portal  - the first time you log onto the portal you will have to enter a lot of info (address, phone, emergency contacts, etc) so it is best to that before registration day
  • Set up your credit card information in the portal  - This will save you a lot of time on registration day. Once you add a lesson to your cart, you will have 8 minutes to check out before the lesson goes back up for grabs. If you enter your card information ahead of time, you should have no problem getting checked out in this time frame. 
  • Make sure all of your children are on your account – If you need to add someone to your account email nikkivance@windstream.net by 1:00pm on May 14th
AFTER YOU REGISTER
  • Fill out the electronic waiver - This is done entirely online and will only take a couple minutes. Please fill this out as soon as possible. Just follow this link (via Google Docs) https://forms.gle/y4yBaa7eYp7xP9x36
  • Check your email - You should receive an email reminder the week before your child's lessons begins that confirms your lesson time, instructor, and any other important information!
  • It's Go Time! - When lessons begin, please have your child at the Aquatic Center 5 minutes prior to their lesson so that the instructors can get started on time. Also, other children are NOT allowed in the water at the time of lessons for their safety. If a sibling/friend comes who is not registered, they must watch and CANNOT enter the water.

LEVEL 1:  Introduction to Water Skills
Purpose: Help students feel comfortable in the water
  • Basic water safety rules
  • Swimming on front and back using arm and leg actions
  • Recognizing a swimmer in distress and getting help
  • Submerging mouth, nose and eyes
  • Opening eyes under water and picking up submerged objects
  • Floating on front and back
  • Exhaling underwater
LEVEL 2:  Fundamental Aquatic Skills
Purpose:  Give students success with fundamental skills
  • Recognizing a swimmer in distress and getting help
  • Submerging entire head
  • Bobbing in water
  • Front and back glide
  • Jellyfish Float
  • Treading water using arm and leg motions
  • Swimming using combined stroke on front and back
LEVEL 3:  Stroke Development
Purpose:  Build on the skills in Level 2 by providing additional guided practice
  • Reaching Assist
  • Kneeling or standing dive (shallow dive progression)
  • Submerging and retrieving an object
  • Rotary breathing in horizontal position
  • Front and back glide
  • Survival float, back float
  • Front and back crawl
  • Butterfly kick and body motion
LEVEL 4:  Stroke Improvement and Refinement
Purpose:  Develop confidence in the strokes learned and improve other aquatic skills.  Provide further coordination and refinement of strokes.
  • Safe diving rules
  • Throwing assist
  • Dive form stride position or shallow dive
  • Feet-first surface dive
  • Survival float, back float
  • Front and back crawl
  • Elementary backstroke, breaststroke, butterfly
